Our Zoo

Yesterday I mentioned in my post that we have two german shepherds, well they are just two of our family pets… We have 6 pets currently. The first pet we got was a small dog (a chihuahua) named Kingsley, he is five years old. Next we got our Siamese cat Krookshanks who is three years old. Then came Lily our bunny. Followed by Luna (an Anatolian Shepherded mix) who passed away a few short months after we adopted her. Next was Molly and Ginny the Leopard Gecko’s (unfortunately they have been sick also since we adopted them last July and Molly has recently passed). All animals to this point were names after Harry Potter charterers.

K9 Ava and K9 Egon are our two newest family members. They are both German Shepherds. Both estimated to be around one to one and a half years of age. They are beautiful wonderful dogs. We love them so much. Boy oh boy is it a full time job running this zoo!

I vacuum two to three times a day. Bunny bed is changed once a week, with daily clean up. Gecko bed is also cleaned once a week with daily clean up. Litter box also changed weekly with daily clean up. Dog messes are another story as we live in WI so once The snow melts a little we try to pick up what we can. Come spring we get it all.

The kids help maintain all the animals as they are their pets. Somedays I wish I had my own dog though! My daughter has her dog, my oldest son has his dog, and my youngest son has the chihuahua. Luna was my girl and I miss her so very much right now.

The Beginning of Lent

This year my family is changing up our usual Lenten tradition. We are not giving up the usual candy and sweets but trying to change to do a little more… All three children have given up TV (allowing for one family television show at night), video games, iPads for the kids, Facebook for Mommy, and spending our time instead reading bible stories, playing board games, reading books, and reorganizing our entire home!

All of this in addition to our very jam packed, nonstop, go go go schedule. We currently have sports 5 days a week for the three children ages five, seven, and ten. We are also in the process of training a service dog (an 85lbs. German Shepherd) and a search and rescue dog ( a 95lbs. German Shepherd) with my son and husband. We also attend Sunday school and mass on Sundays. I homeschool our three children and my husband is a firefighter who is home 3 days a week.

Today has been a day full of ups and downs. Emotions were on high when the dog trainer came over this morning for a meeting to discuss our SAR dog. We have to change our methods of training him. Then our crew rushed off to Ash Wednesday mass. We came home to start the reorganization. The house needs to be decluttered in so many areas. I started with my daughter’s room. I am still less than half way done. I will probably need at least another day or two during down time in there!

Well it is 2145 and I am exhausted! Goodnight.
